Westborough Schools Elevate Learning with Digital Signage

Westborough Public Schools is a district based out of Massachusetts that strives to provide its K-12 and beyond community members with excellent education opportunities. Employing over 730 employees serving over 4,000 students, the district aims to provide challenging coursework, rewarding extracurriculars, and diverse programs. However, serving such a large community requires robust communication to ensure everyone is aware of certain events, clubs, and important announcements. Partnering with REACH Media Network, Westborough Public Schools have integrated digital signage into multiple crucial points of communication throughout its education network. The result has been an enthusiastic, engaged community where staff also benefits from clear communication. Upgrading from its previous solution, the district plans to expand its signage initiative to other locations and integrate streaming capabilities.

THE SOLUTION

Before partnering with REACH Media Network, Westborough Public Schools was employing digital signage, but in a more simplistic way. Beforehand, the district was using Google Sign Builder. However, this solution was unreliable, requiring constant reboots to get displays back up and running. After seeing a REACH Media Network & BrightSign showcase at a convention, the district partnered with them to upgrade its digital signage solution.

Now, the school utilizes 10 BrightSign signage players across 7 different locations, averaging at least one player in each school building. Computer Support Technician Tyrone Notice and Media & IT Specialist Steve Masciarelli can take requests from each school in terms of what announcements they’d like to see onscreen. From there, the two can use templates and canvases provided by the schools or even leverage REACH Media Network’s Canva integration to then create the brunt of the signage content.

THE RESULTS

As a result of partnering with REACH Media Network, Westborough Public Schools have integrated digital signage in many crucial aspects of their communication strategy. Integrating with its parent-portal “ParentSquare,” allows the district to publish content to parents through both social media channels and digital signage simultaneously through an iFrame script. Content can also be tailored by location. For example, an athletic wing can feature athletics-based content, while a screen in a library can highlight guest speakers and “Listening Lunches.” Lobbies often have welcome messaging paired with relevant information for students, such as club registrations, important deadlines, and event promotions. At the elementary level, the district even hosts “Weather Mondays,” where they engage kids in describing the weather and the basic science behind it. Overall, technical directors have commented on how the displays are professional-looking and up to date, making them a reliable source of information for the community.
