HOW TO LEVERAGE DIGITAL SIGNAGE FOR HOTEL LOBBIES

Similar to other industries, the hospitality industry is undergoing a technological revolution in its communication with its audience. Digital signage continues to grow in this sector, with hospitals implementing digital displays within their cafes, checkout desks, and recreation centers. However, the most prominent location for digital signage in hotels would have to be the lobby. As the epicenter of your hotel, the lobby is where tenants will hang out, eat, check-in/check-out, and call for rides. With such a bustling hub of activity available, hotels and other hospitality facilities would be remiss to not adopt some sort of digital signage solution into their communication strategy.

However, those unfamiliar may not understand what digital signage entails, or be intimidated by the initial setup process and future content creation. However, that’s where REACH Media Network comes into play. As both a hardware and software provider, REACH Media Network can provide you with all the tools and training you need to be confident in your displays. Once you join, an account manager and install coordinator will walk you through the installation process and ensure your displays are up and running properly. From there, you will have access to a host of other services, including our free professional design services as well as access to 24/7 support.

At REACH Media Network, we define digital signage as the intersection where software, hardware, and strategy meet to produce engaging content. On the hardware side, this includes things like your TV screen or other display, and the media players you will use to stream content to said displays. From the software end, that will be handled by your content-management system. Thankfully, you already found the best software you need with REACH Media Network. Lastly, your strategy. This encompasses the people on your team, the roles they play, what content you plan to create, and how you plan to roll that out. Fleshing out each of these aspects of your plan will help ensure your strategy is performed and shared effectively. When all of these come together, you get a cohesive digital signage marketing solution! If you would like to get started, fill out the form below!

Now that you have your materials in order, let’s discuss how to best utilize them. The lobby is one of the best places to place your hospitality digital signage because it receives the most foot-traffic. With people coming in and out, lingering to chat, or enjoying a meal at the cafe, there will be constant activity around your lobby. This makes it an excellent location to place some displays.

Within the lobby, there are a few considerations you should consider. In terms of hardware, we recommend at least an HD screen (1920x1080p) at 42”. The model should be either an LCD, LED, or OLED panel. This panel should be placed around 4-9 feet away, depending on the size of your screen at slightly above eye level. This guarantees the optimum level of comfort for viewers. Of course, you can even add freestanding kiosks around lobbies to assist with certain tasks. This can range from assisting with check-ins to providing interesting tourist spots!

CREATING AND PUBLISHING CONTENT

The hardware is set up, the software is installed, and now it’s time to start creating content and publishing it for display. For hotel lobbies, we often see a mix of:

  • Tourist spot recommendations
  • Hotel events/activities
  • Local restaurants
  • Special deals/packages
  • Pool advertisements

These are all common sources of content we see in many of our hospitality clients. However, the beauty of digital signage is the flexibility it offers. If you have a restaurant or cafe in your hotel, you can replace static menu boards with dynamic signage displays! These can host videos showing off new menu items, clearly show the price, and encourage purchases. Hallways can be outlined with wayfinding displays, helping visitors navigate around the campus. As mentioned before, touchscreen kiosks can reduce wait times by enabling self-check-ins/check-outs. Each of these displays can be customized with your unique branding aesthetic to maintain a consistent look across all your displays
