In the town of Columbia, South Carolina, the South Carolina Department of Disabilities & Special Needs serves thousands of residents with various disabilities. To ensure its community not only has access to, but is aware of the resources available to them, the organization invests a lot into its communication strategy in order to reach its members. However, this was not only easy. Previously relying on email newsletters and memos, the Department of Disabilities & Special Needs soon realized it would need a more modern solution to disseminate important information effectively.
As a result, the IT department was tasked with researching reliable internal communication platforms. This led them to REACH Media Network around 2022. After a few meetings and a successful demo, the South Carolina Department of Disabilities & Special Needs would implement a large digital signage network solution that would help them improve viewer engagement and create a greater variety of content. This has resulted in massive benefits to the organization as viewers have increased awareness around events and important information.

THE SOLUTION
After partnering with REACH, the South Carolina Department of Disabilities & Special Needs decided to start by implementing around 20 players. These would be placed in administrative buildings, repair centers, and consumer spaces to achieve the greatest viewership for its announcements. The goal would be to post content that would get audiences passing by in hallways or common areas to stop and digest the content being posted. Digital signage offering dynamic animation and video options, while also displaying vibrant color schemes, effectively fit into the strategy the organization was building. Once these screens were properly set up, it was time to begin executing on these aspects.
THE RESULTS
Since implementing its digital signage strategy with REACH Media Network, the South Carolina Department of Disabilities & Special Needs has seen great success with its displays. Highlighting REACH’s CMS Canva integration as a huge benefit, the organization is able to create and share templates, leverage more resources, and match visual elements across multiple assets. Seeing the success of these displays, other department heads now request certain content pieces to be displayed, and will help create marketing packages to employ during specified campaigns. This allows them to push themed months, such as Autism Awareness Month, Black History Month, Women’s History Month, Native American History Month, and more! This also resulted in the digital displays feeling more inclusive for members of the community.
Beforehand, awareness events and meetings would hardly see any attendance, especially as people learned to ignore emails. But now, the screens receive a lot of attention. From each display, people can stop and view what’s going on for the month, see messaging that corresponds with table handouts during events, and respond to relevant content pieces. Events that once got low attendance now get full houses, and the community is overall more informed and involved.
